Microsoft has announced the launch of its second Dream Build Play contest, as it continues to encourage independent and amateur use of Xbox 360 hardware to make games. The competition gives students and hobbyists a chance to win up to $40,000 and an an Xbox Live Arcade contract by submitting Xbox 360 games created in XNA Game Studio 2.0. First announced on the XNA team's weblog, Microsoft says one of the top ten finalists will have a chance at a contract, while the creators of the top four games will win $40,000, $20,000, $10,000, and $5,000, respectively. As this year's contest is limited to Xbox 360 development, Microsoft has also announced that every registered entrant will receive 12-month trial access to the XNA Creator's Club. Finally, the company says the previously reported top four winners of the 2007 contest -- which includes Ska Studios' Dishwasher, highlighted at this year's GDC keynote, will see their games released on Xbox Live Arcade "later this year." More information and entry forms can be found at the official Dream Build Play website.
