In an interview in Famitsu magazine Yoshihiro Maruyama, general manager of Xbox Japan, has indicated that the division will be refocusing its attention on producing more RPG titles for the console. The Xbox has virtually no market share in Japan, in part due to the almost total lack of RPGs for the system – the favorite genre by far in the country.
Although a positive step forward any half-knowledgeable observer could have advised Microsoft of this policy well before the Xbox’s launch. Worryingly, Maruyama has refused to elaborate on how he will attract major RPG developers to the platform, many of which have close and lucrative relations with Sony and/or Nintendo.
