“Legalize it,” said a group of media and technology companies about disc copying, Reuters reported. The group—which includes Microsoft, Walt Disney, Intel, and Time Warner’s Warner Bros.—agreed in principle yesterday to let consumers copy next-generation video discs for purposes of creating a backup and sharing content on portable devices.
A legal copying device for the so-called “next-generation” DVDs cannot be made until disc makers adopt a set of standards for the new discs.
The agreement will help further the agenda of the computer and consumer electronics industry to allow for more accessible sharing between media players, Reuters reported.
