Marine Simulation LLC, which produces interactive, computer-based simulations of surface and sub-surface craft for marine professionals, has announced the release of
ROVsim, a physics accurate and visually realistic Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) simulator. The simulator joins Marine Simulation's existing lineup of similar products, such as
vSHIP, a full bridge simulator designed to train ship personnel, and
vSHIP MOB, a Man Overboard training simulation.
According to Marine Simulation, the
ROVsim simulator was created using technology originally designed for the video game industry, and is optimized to simulate a wide range of mission variables, from changing currents and visibility, tether and collision problems, to electronics and gear failures.
The program offers a wide array of training and simulated missions and objectives, such as harbor security, hull inspections, dam and bridge inspections, deep water drilling and cable work, law enforcement / evidence recovery, scientific data collection, tunnel / pipeline inspections, marine archeology and underwater rescue.
Marine Simulation officials note that
ROVsim is designed to operate on low-cost PCs, and is available for both Microsoft Windows and Apple OS X operating systems. In addition, a free demo of the simulator is available for download from
Marine Simulation's website.
