Representatives of publisher Majesco have announced Blast Works, an upgraded Wii exclusive port of Kenta Cho's PC side-scrolling shooter Tumiki Fighters that will allow players to "craft the game to their liking" by building levels, ships and enemies through in-game editors. The game, first released on PC by cult-favorite hobbyist creator Cho in 2004 (and available for free download here), is a colorful side-scrolling shooter which allows players to absorb sticky geometric remnants of defeated enemy ships to bolster their own ship's defenses throughout the level. In addition to the 15 land, air and sea missions offered, the Wii version of the game stands to be significantly upgraded, with Majesco promising a Hangar where players can customize weapons, propulsion systems and armour, as well as build enemies, custom levels, and their own ships from the colorful blocks. Players will defend their own Hangar, says Majesco using the Wii Remote like an "anti-aircraft turret to shoot down enemies attacking from all angles." Majesco also says the game will have a 2-player cooperative mode to finish missions as a team. The game is being developed by Budcat Creations, previously responsible for the PS2 port of DoubleFine's Psychonauts and, more recently, Majesco's casual DS title New York Times Crosswords. Majesco says the game is scheduled for a fall 2007 U.S. release, and Q1 2008 European release. Said Majesco Europe marketing manager John Merchant, “Gamers can literally build their own shooter experience via Blast Works’ easy-to-use, multiple in-game editors. This exceptional customisation combined with the unique 'stickiness' of enemy debris and bright geometric graphics delivers a standout game that never plays the same way twice.”
