Mad Catz Third Quarter Benefits From More Diverse Peripherals

Peripheral-maker Mad Catz saw its second-best quarter ever, seeing sales and profits up thanks to what it says is a successful focus realignment and a more diverse product mix. The company's net sales were up 19 percent to $40.8 million, while profits rose 51 percent year over year to $15.9 million. Mad Catz's fiscal third quarter ended December 2009. Among the products it shipped during the period were voice communicators for Modern Warfare 2, arcade sticks for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Street Fighter 4, and a wireless Fender Telecaster "Player's Edition" Rock Band guitar for Xbox 360. The company notes that while in the past it's been associated with budget peripherals for consoles, it's since developed various "premium" products, added PC peripherals to its lineup, and broadened its business globally. "While the videogame industry has experienced significant economic-related pressure, we are highly encouraged by the consumer reception to our product portfolio and believe that our strategy to diversify our product line-up across a broader range of licensed and non-licensed properties, hardware platforms, both within the videogame sector as well as expanding into the PC market, will continue to serve the Company well," says CEO Darren Richardson.
