Representatives from Macrovision have won a preliminary injunction against the sale of DVD cloning software products sold by 321 Studios. The company, which makes content copy protection and rights management technology, is relying on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 and claims of patent infringement to fend off what it believes is digital piracy. The injunction covers only 321 Studios’ DVD X Copy family of products, but it is expected that if it is successful the Game X Copy range of products will be targeted next.
