Macrovision today announced the forthcoming release of Safedisc 3.1, the company’s copy protection/DRM system for CD and DVD-based games. To thwart the ever-increasing sophistication of software crackers, the new version creates a new security system for each title, so that cracking one application doesn’t give pirates as much of a leg up on other apps. Safedisk 3.1 is slated to ship in September 2003, and Macrovision will also be offering an expanded professional-level service to its customers, which includes training and an on-site Macrovision development engineer to assist developers in applying Safedisc to each title. Pricing for this service was not announced.
