LucasArts announced that it has entered into an agreement with Day 1 Studios (MechAssault
, MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf
) to develop a new original title for next-generation console platforms.
While little information is available concerning the project, the companies noted that it will focus on interactivity, and will leverage off of Day 1 Studios' available proprietary technology. Considering Day 1's track record, this would seem to indicate that the project will feature heavy emphasis on online play. Day 1 is currently developing multiple products for next-generation platforms at its studios in Chicago, IL and Hunt Valley, MD, including the Xbox 360 version of F.E.A.R.
for Vivendi Games.
Peter Hirschmann, Vice President of Product Development at LucasArts, commented that his company is "determined to deliver outstanding new ideas to next-generation consoles," adding that the partnership between it and Day 1 Studios "creates another opportunity for us to bring innovation and creativity to the market."
He added: "The phenomenal technology created by Day 1 directly affects gameplay in extremely innovative ways -- and it perfectly complements the engaging story and intriguing characters you'd expect of a LucasArts title."
Denny Thorley, President of Day 1 Studios, also noted that prior to signing the agreement with LucasArts, Day 1 had been looking to work with a publisher that would "set the bar sky-high."
"It's a privilege to work with the creative minds behind some of the most successful franchises in entertainment history," noted Thorley, "and we are inspired by the opportunity to work with LucasArts on their first entirely new property specifically for next-generation consoles."
