LucasArts Announces PC/XBLA Puzzler Lucidity, Promises New Properties

Developer and publisher LucasArts has formally revealed its upcoming PC and Xbox Live Arcade puzzle-tinted platformer Lucidity -- and the company is painting the game as the beginning of a new effort that will encourage more internal development at the company. Launching in just under a month, Lucidity has the player protecting a young girl as she wanders through the worlds of her dreams, rendered in a distinctive style reminiscent of paper collage. The game is being developed by the same team responsible for the recent successful PC and Xbox Live Arcade special edition re-release of 1990's The Secret of Monkey Island. LucasArts president Darrel Rodriguez is said to be a fan of LucasArts' arguably-dormant legacy of constantly developing internal original titles. “Lucidity comes from our effort at LucasArts to form several small internal development teams and give them the creative freedom to make games that surprise, amaze and inspire,” Rodriguez said, adding that Secret and Lucidity "are just the beginning of this effort." After more than a decade of producing acclaimed original games all throughout the 1990s, particularly in the adventure genre, LucasArts in recent years has focused much more heavily on Star Wars licensed games, with actual internal development slowing to a crawl. Lucidity is the first original game game developed within the studio since 2003's poorly-received RTX: Red Rock.
