Konami has sounded one of the opening shots in the Christmas buying frenzy with Pro Evolution Soccer 3 smashing into the number one spot. Although the company has refused to reveal its own figures, Chart-Track has indicated that the game is the sixth fastest selling ever in the UK – which would suggest sales of over 120,000 in the first week. The big question will now be whether the game can outperform EA’s FIFA Football 2004, which is released this Friday. Elsewhere in the charts there was little else in the way of important movement, although THQ will be relatively disappointed in the performance of Finding Nemo – now that the movie has finally been released in the UK. Sony will also be extremely upset to see Jak II: Renegade in at only number eleven, perhaps calling into question the wisdom of aiming the game at a higher age group than the previous title.
