If not for the release of the new GameCube version of, what will become, Wario Ware, Inc. the Japanese chart this week would have been utterly stagnant. Even so the Nintendo game sold less than 100,000 units – the expected minimum for any number one title – and the bottom four games in the top ten all failed to sell more than 8,000 units. Hardware sales have shown some growth though, due to the GameCube’s price cut coming into effect. However the console has seen its market share merely return to the 15% mark, which it had been maintaining for the few week’s previous to the announced price drop. Although the cut was proportionally much less than in the US and Europe Nintendo executives will no doubt still be disappointed with the result.
