Despite a raft of new entries the weekly Japanese sales charts have once again shown negative growth with a combined sales total that equates to only 69.44% of the weekly average – not a good sign at this increasingly busy time of the year. Most of the new entries were fairly minor titles, although Namco will be pleased with the performance of the latest entry in their drum-based rhythm action series Taiko no Tatsujin. Eidos though will be disappointed that Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness has exited the top ten after only one week, although fellow Western title GTA3 is still performing relatively well. There was more excitement in the hardware charts though, with the GameCube market share rising for the third consecutive week, following its price cut, to account for 20.78% of all console sales. This compares to the PS2 at 38.37%, combined GBA sales at 38.67% and the Xbox at 0.71% (again below the PS one at 0.77%).
