Despite a significant number of new entries in the top ten, sales have once again fallen in Japan - by almost 40% compared to the previous week’s figures. This was primarily due to a fall in unit sales of Sega’s soccer management title and Namco’s
Xenosaga sequel.
The highest new entry was Sony’s new party game based on the
Ape Escape brand, although this could only manage to sell 38,000 units. Namco and Nintendo co-production
Donkey Konga 2 fared no better on 32,000 units, with other titles such as RPG
Kishin Houkou Demon Bane and driving game
Monkey Turn V achieving their places in the top ten through even less effort.
Hardware sales were once again led by the Game Boy Advance with a 49.73% market share, followed by PlayStation 2 at 42.09%, GameCube at 7.32% and Xbox at 0.46%.
