John Romero, noted former id Software level designer and creator of Daikatana, has confirmed via his website that he has left publisher Midway. In a brief comment on his site’s forum, Romero indicated that he left the company almost three weeks ago, though news of the departure has only recently surfaced online. According to Romero himself, Midway "says that development of [Gauntlet: Seven Sorrows] hasn't been impacted by my departure and is scheduled to ship this fall." No formal statement has yet been made by the publisher, though. Romero has had a tumultuous career in the video games industry, gaining early fame with his work on Doom and Quake, before falling out with other id Software founders – as documented in the book Masters of Doom (apparently to be made into a TV movie). Romero then went on to work on the infamous Daikatana at Ion Storm for publisher Eidos, before founding his own mobile games company Monkeystone. After joining Midway only last year, the future is now unclear for Romero, although according to his forum post: "I'm currently looking at lots of exciting developments right now and it'll be a couple months before I can announce my next destination."
