Japanese hardware sales this week have again disappointed, falling by almost half from last week to 46 percent of the weekly average. The low sales in the last month or so have been underlined by a lack of prominent releases, and this continues to be the problem this week, with only four new titles in the top 100. Nintendo will nevertheless be pleased with the week’s results, which have seen exercise program DS Training For Adults: Work Your Brain improve its chart position once again to top the chart. It actually sold fewer copies than last week though, with its 30,349 units being the lowest for any number one title this year. Sony will also be cheered to finally see a PSP title in the top ten again, with Bandai’s new title Eiyuu Densetsu Gagharv Trilogy: Shiroki Majo appearing to prove that role-playing games remain the most popular genre on the portable format in Japan - a genre in which the DS so far has little representation. In hardware sales though the Nintendo DS was once again dominant, with 34,939 unit sales and a 34.28 percent market share. This was followed by the PlayStation 2 with a 30.23 percent market share, the PSP with 22.78 percent, the Game Boy Advance at 10.20 percent, the GameCube at 2.31 percent and the Xbox at 0.20 percent.
