Representatives from Japanese publisher/developers Square Enix, Namco, Sega and Taito have announced that they will combine their efforts to distribute mobile phone content in China. The four companies will license their content to Square Enix Webstar Network Technology, a subsidiary of Square Enix in China. Square Enix in China will then sublicense to BeiJing Mobit Information Technology, which is approved for providing services throughout China via the mobile content distribution services of China Mobile Communication Corporation – China’s biggest mobile network operator. China is seen as one of the most important emerging markets for video games content, with the main stumbling block of rampant piracy making wireless distribution of mobile phone content particularly attractive to publishers.
