Nintendo has confirmed a number of new Virtual Console titles for Japanese release in January 2007 on the Wii, including a number of sought-after games for the Nintendo 64, Super Nintendo, NES, Sega Genesis, and TurboGrafx-16.
The list, which appeared on Nintendo's official Japanese website, is headed by
Mario Kart 64 for the Nintendo 64, and RPG
Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu for the Super Nintendo.
In addition, a number of first-party NES games, including
Ice Climber, Kid Icarus and
Zelda II: The Adventure of Link will debut for digital download in Japan next month, alongside relatively obscure Sunsoft title
Ikki, continuing a swift rollout of legacy titles for the console.
Sega has confirmed that it will make available Genesis titles
Bonanza Bros and
Gain Ground available for the Virtual Console in January 2007, and Hudson will debut the already North American-released
Alien Crush alongside
Motoraeder, R-Type II and
Soldier Blade, in the territory.
Most of these titles are not yet confirmed for U.S. release, but the Virtual Console service did debut five new games on Christmas Day in North America, including
Super Mario Bros for the NES,
Super Castlevania IV and
Street Fighter II: The World Warrior for the Super Nintendo,
Toe Jam & Earl for the Sega Genesis, and
R-Type for the TurboGrafx, at prices ranging from $5 to $8.
