Japan DSi LL Sales See Strong Two-Day Total

Nintendo's larger-screened handheld, the DSi LL, hit retail in Japan on November 22, and since then it's sold 103,524 units -- not quite on par with the DSi's launch, but outperforming that of the PSP Go.
Nintendo's larger-screened handheld, the DSi LL, hit retail in Japan on November 22, and while its debut can't quite match the DSi's launch, it's seeing better early numbers than the PSP Go did. According to Enterbrain figures translated by consumer weblog Kotaku, the DSi LL has sold 103,524 units in its first two days, compared to the 170,000 units the DSi sold in its first two days. The PSP Go sold 28,000 units at its launch. Nintendo confirmed the launch of the DSi LL -- to release as "DSi XL" in the U.S. and Europe -- back in October. Its screen area is 93 percent greater than that of the DS Lite, although with the same number of pixels. The DSi LL was a response to customer requests for greater screen area, and is aimed at customers who want to use the portable for internet and music. It ships with a longer stylus, an improved view angle and pre-installed DSiWare software. At ¥20,000 ($220), it's priced a little bit higher than the existing DSi, which retails in Japan for ¥18,900 ($213). The larger-screen model is sold alongside the DSi and not as a replacement; it'll reach the U.S. and Europe in the first quarter of calendar year 2010.
