Interplay to Maintain Icewind Dale and Baldur's Gate Licenses

Interplay announced today that the company will maintain the license to develop and publish games based on the Dungeons & Dragons franchises Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale.
Interplay will license the franchises from Infogrames, who will retain the rights to the Neverwinter Nights D&D franchise. Black Isle Studios will develop RPGs for Interplay based on the franchises under the multi-year, multi-product license. Black Isle is currently working on Icewind Dale 2 for PC and Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance for Xbox. Neverwinter Nights is currently under development at BioWare, who filed suit against Interplay last September to prevent Interplay from sublicensing the game’s distribution. BioWare cancelled their publishing agreement with Interplay in November, and the dispute was settled in January with Infogrames assuming the worldwide publishing rights to Neverwinter Nights.
