Ignition's WarDevil Project Still A Go, Despite Troubled Development

Ignition Entertainment said that it would "fast-track" development of its action game WarDevil, now renamed as Project Kane, in the wake of a studio closure that left the game's future in question. "Following a comprehensive audit of the title, assets and internal team, we have decided that a core team responsible for the Project Kane prototype will take the game into full production, led by the key vision holders," said Hassan Sadiq (pictured), group chairman of UTV Ignition in a statement. WarDevil was originally unveiled in 2004, back when the Xbox 360 was still referred to as "Xbox 2." Ignition's UK studio was working on the title, but the parent company said it would cease development operations at the location, and consider outsourcing options in order to finish WarDevil. The company's corporate headquarters remains in London and continues publishing operations. Sadiq added, "There has been speculation recently about this project, but our vision has always been to create top quality content both with internal and external partners, and this latest commitment combines the best of the DNA behind the original project vision with some of the creative talent available in the broader industry." "Outsourcing ensures flexibility and broader expertise that will dovetail perfectly with internal skill sets to speed up the process and ensure a title of true excellence," he said. The company hopes to release Project Kane in fourth quarter 2011. Ignition this year published the online shooter Blacklight: Tango Down for Xbox Live Arcade and PC.
