The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) announced two individuals in the game industry that it will honor at the Game Developers Choice Awards on March 21, held at the Game Developer Conference in San Jose, CA. Hubert Chardot will receive the "First Penguin Award", an award which acknowledges developers who have shown a willingness to take risks for potential advancements in game development. Chardot will receive this honor for his work on Alone in the Dark, a game that the IGDA say "started the 'survival-horror' genre". Jeff Lander will be presented with the IGDA Award for Community Contribution, in recognition for writing and speaking at numerous industry events, organizing technical seminars and championing student outreach efforts. The Game Developers Choice Awards Advisory Board selects the recipients of the First Penguin Award and the IGDA Award for Community Contribution. The Game Developers Conference is produced by the Gama Network, the same organization that publishes Gamasutra.
