Nintendo officials have confirmed that IBM has been signed up for chip design on the company’s next generation console, code-named ‘N5’. The move came after IBM technicians demonstrated a supercomputer capable of performing 2 trillion operations per second – apparently using a variation of PowerPC technology. IBM has already designed chips for the GameCube and will also be creating internal components for the PlayStation 3 and next generation Xbox.
