Just hours ahead of the start of its Penny Arcade Expo in Seattle, the creators of the ubiquitous web comic have announced a partnership with Vancouver's Hothead Games to create a series of licensed video games. The first game in the series, a comic adventure game entitled Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, has been announced for Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux, and is to be followed by a version for next-generation consoles. It is currently slated for episodic digital download, with further episodes to be delivered several times a year. The game marks the first announced title for Canadian developers Hothead Games, recently founded by industry veterans from Radical Entertainment and Silicon Knights, led by joint CEO and president Vlad Ceraldi, alongside Black Box/EA veteran and joint CEO Steve Bocska. Though Penny Arcade has previously contributed its signature style for a PocketPC title and a collectible card game, the Penny Arcade Adventures also marks the comic-creating duo's first foray into the realm of full-on video games. "We’re really excited to be working with Hothead Games on our first electronic adventure," said writer Jerry Holkins, his -- so says the release -- clawed feet resting atop a huge slab of granite. "From the moment we laid eyes on them, it was clear they had the technical and creative chops to execute our grim vision. Now that we have pooled our strengths, our dark work may truly begin."
