The deadline for submitting entries into the recently announced
Graphic Impact art and animation competition, run by graphics-related website CG Society and the CMP Game Group-owned Game Developers Conference has been re-confirmed as Tuesday, January 17.
Those still wishing to enter must submit, via the official website
a simple 'registration of entry', featuring an image and story depicting a "pivotal moment" between a protagonist and antagonist in a game by Tuesday to be considered for the competition.
The six finalists eventually submitting the best 30-second animations will be sponsored to travel to San Jose, California in March 2006 and to attend GDC to collect their prizes at a special awards ceremony. The finalists’ artwork will be on display in the Graphic Impact Art Gallery located at the San Jose Convention Center.
On Wednesday, March 22nd at the IGF/Game Developers Choice Awards, the competition will be detailed within the program and finalists’ artwork presented. Finally, on the evening of Thursday, March 23rd, winners will be announced during a VIP Art Reception. Prizes include a complimentary pass to the GDC, a travel stipend, other prize products, and CG Society and other CMP Game Group-related prizes.
"We have created an exciting competition that focuses on the pivotal moment in a game story," Mark Snoswell, CGSociety President, said. "We are thrilled to host this competition and look forward to receiving entries in the three categories: Commercial, Team and Individual. The CGSociety is the largest group of digital artists in the world and this is the first time we have focused on the games community specifically. We are pleased to do this with the GDC, the leading game developers' conference in the world."
