Bethesda Game Studios'
Fallout 3 took top honors at Future's gamer-determined Golden Joystick Awards in London this week, as Activision Blizzard was named best publisher among its show-topping five total awards.
Run by Future Publishing, the award show drew votes from 1.2 million gamers in its 27th year of existence. Games released between May 22, 2008 and May 22, 2009 were considered eligible for nomination, meaning most of the big winners hit during last year's holiday season release rush.
Along with its Ultimate Game of the Year award,
Fallout 3 took PC Game of the Year. Activision Blizzard's Publisher of the Year honor came alongside awards to Treyarch's
Call of Duty: World at War for Nintendo Game of the Year and Multiplayer Game of the Year, Neversoft's
Guitar Hero World Tour for Soundtrack of the Year, and Infinity Ward's
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 for the One to Watch nod.
Among the 15 total categories,
Fallout 3 and
World at War were the only titles to take more than one award each. Other notable awards were Xbox Game of the Year for Epic's
Gears of War 2 and PlayStation Game of the Year for Guerrilla's
Killzone 2.
Cambridge-based studio Jagex, which develops the browser-based fantasy MMO
RuneScape, was named UK Developer of the Year.
