UK game magazine company Future Publishing has unveiled the winners of the Golden Joystick Awards 2004, in a ceremony hosted by Little Britain’s Matt Lucas at the Park Lane Hotel in London. The winners were the result of over 200,000-plus consumer votes covering hardware and video game software released between November 14th 2003, and October 28th, 2004. With no single publisher, or piece of hardware, taking significant dominance over others, the Golden Joysticks Awards 2004 showed significant diversity. However, Electronic Arts managed to take home three awards, with Burnout 3 taking the PlayStation 2 Game of the Year award; Battlefield Vietnam the Online Game of the Year award; and the company overall taking the Publisher of the Year award. Another highlighted winner was Nintendo, as it managed to also pick up three awards, spanning both hardware and software. Nintendo were victorious in the GameCube Game of the Year award with Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, the Hardware of the Year award for the Game Boy Advance SP NES Classic Edition, and the Most Wanted Game For 2005 award with The Legend Of Zelda for GameCube. Activision's DOOM 3 the only individual title to scoop two awards, taking home the PC Game of the Year and Ultimate Game of the Year awards. In the top-lined Ultimate Game Of The Year topic, it outperformed Ubisoft's Far Cry, Lionhead's Fable, and Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 4. The awards also saw Deus Ex creator Warren Spector welcomed to the Barrington Harvey-sponsored 'Golden Joystick Hall of Fame', joining last year's inaugural entrant and creator of the Mario series, Shigeru Miyamoto.
