Xsens Technologies has announced that independent developer Gearbox Software selected its Moven motion capture suit for their mocap process, with plans to demonstrate the suit at the forthcoming GDC 2008. Moven plugs-in to Autodesk MotionBuilder in real-time, and actors can wear any type of clothing over the suit. It works via MEMS inertial sensors under any lighting condition, and is not sensitive to EM fields. The suit itself is made of lycra and contains 16 inertial motion trackers, integrated in a comfortable lycra suit. The motion trackers give absolute orientation estimates, which can also be used to calculate the 3D linear accelerations in world coordinates which in turn give translation estimates of the body segments. The company plans to demonstrate the suit at the 2008 Game Developers Conference alongside Gearbox mocap expert Benjamin Wagley. Xsens' Hein Beute commented, "There's no substitute for a live demo. We are convinced that when game developers see the system in live action on the GDC floor, they will see for themselves that Moven is a flexible time-saving tool for game development."
