Organizers of the first annual Game Developers Conference (GDC) China, currently taking place at the Shanghai International Convention Center, have announced that attendance goals have exceeded expectations with more than 700 conference attendees registered, 70% from China alone. In addition, nearly 3000 visitors are expected to visit the Tools Display Expo and Career Fair held in conjunction with the conference. The inaugural event is being hosted by the CMP Game Group, presenters of the largest global event dedicated to video game creation, the Game Developers Conference, in partnership with the Shanghai office of leading technology, media and events company IDG, with the support of the General Administration of Press and Publication of the People’s Republic of China (GAAP). Content at GDC China was programmed by an advisory board comprised of representatives from the leading companies in China’s game market: 9you, DJL International, Epic Games China, Netease, and Shanda. The event is dedicated to two tracks: The Outsourcing and Next Generation Games track, features a keynote from Epic Games China CEO and Co-founder Paul Meegan. Greg Short, Director of Platform Product Management for Sony Online Entertainment, keynotes the Online Game Development and Business track. “We’re ecstatic with the turnout and industry support for the first GDC China event,” said Meggan Scavio, Senior Conference Manager, GDC China. “The attendee feedback has been incredibly positive and encouraging and we look forward to future China-based conferences, improving and expanding on our inaugural endeavor.” The conference also included a full day of mobile content and tutorials on Monday, as well as dedicated career content and sponsored sessions. The result is a unique learning, sharing and networking opportunity, focused specifically on the Chinese games industry, providing attendees a prime venue for meeting with key industry figures in both the Chinese and Western markets. Robust support for GDC China came from top Chinese and International games companies, including Ubisoft, Nokia, NVIDIA, Electronic Arts, International Games System (IGS), Wingking Entertainment, XPEC Entertainment Inc., Shanghai Zizhu, 9you, Netease, Tencent, Red 5 Studios, and Ultizen. More than 30 companies participated in the Tools Display Expo and Career Fair. For more information, please visit the official GDC China website. Gamasutra will be reporting live from the conference throughout this week.
