In this feature from Gamasutra's sister Game Career Guide site, the y4y Team from Singapore’s Nanyang Polytechnic shares the challenges they faced and the outcomes for their first game, Bashy Bashy: Bully from Earth, a platformer/beat'em'up hybrid. They describe the game in the following excerpt: "In Bashy Bashy: Bully from Earth, the player takes on the role of a man named Todd, a rascal who has caused so much trouble on Earth that mankind decides to exile him to space. Fortunately for Todd, his space pod crashes on an unidentified planet. Todd is now free and searching for a spaceship to return to Earth to exact his revenge. The natives of the planet are not too happy about a 'strange alien' running around, though. It is now up to the player to help Todd fight his way through and get back home. Programmed in C++/OpenGL/GLUT, Bashy Bashy: Bully from Earth is a hybrid between traditional platformers (e.g. Nintendo’s Super Mario 64, Naughty Dog’s Crash Bandicoot) as well as beat-them-ups (such as Capcom’s Final Fight). This is a game played from a third-person perspective. Filled with light-hearted graphics, over-the-top combat effects and plenty of action, we aimed it to be a treat for gamers of all ages."
