Organizers for Games Convention are considering hosting its upcoming North American expo in Canada and not in the U.S., according to media reports.
"We'll decide about the place of the new event in cooperation with the games industry," the
convention's organizers told French website Gamekyo. "It seems to become [sic] a city in Canada, not in the US. We'll inform you as soon as we arrived at a decision ... We are still in negotiation."
CEO Wolfgang Marzin
recently announced the company's plans to expand its international portfolio and focus on adapting the convention for the North American market. "The concept is flexible and the network of the global games industry permits us to be active at different locations," he said.
Games Convention also revealed two days ago that it is appointing Silvana Kürschner as the new strategy director of its "Games Convention Global" brand, taking over for Frank Sliwka, who was appointed to the position in July 2008.
However, Games Convention's flagship Leipzig, Germany event now has
major competition from the Cologne-based, game industry body-approved GamesCOM event, which will launch in 2009.
