- Three Rings Design's Puzzle Pirates
has been picked up for retail distribution by Ubisoft for PC, Macs, and Linux. The game, which won several 2004 Independent Games Festival awards, has been available online in various forms since late 2003. Ubisoft's release will include a free month of play, special retail-only items, and offline single-player versions of some of the puzzles. The game will retail for $19.95, with subscriptions costing $9.95 per month after the free trial period ends. Puzzle Pirates
is scheduled to be released at retail this April.
- Tira Wireless has announced the Tira Jump Product Suite, a set of tools to automate the porting of mobile games from one handset platform to another. The Tira Jump technology was previously only available as a service to Tira clients; now the standalone product can be used in-house by mobile developers. The company has also begun offering an outsourced model of Tira Jump use. Current Tira Jump-certified partners qualified to use the tools include Babel Media, MBT, and Absolute Quality.
