The organizers of the 2nd annual Gaming, Learning and Society Conference, to be held June 15-16 in Madison, Wisconsin, have revealed new details on the event, which will explore issues of how video games and digital media are impacting learning and society.
The GLS 2.0 conference is, according to its creators, "designed to foster substantive discussion and collaboration among academics, designers, and educators interested in how videogames - commercial games and others - can enhance learning, culture, and education." Speakers, discussion groups, and interactive workshops and exhibits will focus on game design, game culture, and games' potential for learning and society more broadly.
Confirmed sessions include Kurt Squire & Ben DeVane talking on "Pimp My Ride:
GTA San Andreas as a Sociocultural Playspace", a workshop on augmented reality games with Matthew Slaats, Eric Klopfer, Frank Latz, Mark Wagler & Jim Matthews, and Ibrahim Yucel, Joe Zupko & Magy Seif El-Nasr on "Using Game Modding to Promote and Provide Basic IT skills to a Female Audience", as well as Jack Kuo, Jeffery Wilkins & William Huang on "Biological Mechanisms of Online Gaming Addiction."
