According to an official press release, a new website named GameTrove
has just been launched, with the stated objective of allowing independent games developers to directly publish their games online. As opposed to many other casual and independent gaming portals, GameTrove's creators claim, games are submitted by developers themselves, instead of by a publisher or an affiliate.
Users of the site are able to rate games according to a grading system, rather than titles being ranked by sales. The site also includes other social features such as friends, comments and a forum to discuss current and future titles.
The site is supported by adverts purchased by developers, thereby lowering the fees required to have games features on the website. A number of titles are already available online, with most prices appearing to be in the sub-$20 range across formats including Windows, Linux, Mac and Web browser.
