GameTap To Shutter Editorial Division

Time Warner's subscription-based PC gaming service GameTap has announced plans to shutter its young editorial division and focus solely on its core games distribution service, with reports claiming its entire editorial staff will be let go in June.
Time Warner's subscription-based PC gaming service GameTap has announced that it will be closing its recently launched editorial section, instead focusing solely on its core distribution business. The announcement, made by company content VP Rick Sanchez via a GameTap forum post, said that in the coming months GameTap would be "restructuring the site to focus exclusively on gameplay." GameTap, part of the Turner/Time Warner media empire, offers a monthly subscription to access a library of PC games via its website. Less than a year ago, it launched its editorial section (still open at time of writing) in an attempt to compete with other consumer press outlets with daily news and features, hiring well-known talent from such publications as GameSpot, IGN, GamePro, and Official PlayStation Magazine. Said Sanchez, "While we have been very happy with the work done by our editorial and video teams, we’ve made a decision to focus the business on our biggest strength, which is our game catalog." Sanchez explained that "instead of having a separate 'READ' and 'WATCH' section of the site we will be incorporating written and video content directly into the game pages." Wired's Game|Life weblog cites 'several sources' who have told the outlet that all employees in its editorial division will be let go in June.
