Marvel video games have a new superhero. The company has promoted TQ Jefferson to the role of vice president of games production, where he'll oversee the company's publisher and developer partnerships and lead strategic planning for the slate of games based on the comic book enterprise's properties.
This will include endeavors into the Flash, mobile and smartphone arenas, Marvel noted, in addition to console and PC properties such as Capcom's
Marvel vs. Capcom brand and Gazillion's
Marvel Super Hero Squad and
Marvel Universe online games.
The company describes Jefferson as a 14-year veteran of the video game business who has been providing "critical creative guidance" on Marvel game titles to date. Marvel says its slate of upcoming game properties under Jefferson's purview is "heavy", including work with Disney's Interactive Media Group, and Jefferson will also be responsible for coordinating Marvel film projects.
In addition to helping pick the roster for the upcoming
Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Jefferson got Marvel writer Frank Tieri involved with the game, and has also collaborated with comics writers Matt Fraction and Christos Gage on Sega's
Thor: God Of Thunder and
Captain America: Super Soldier games.
Jefferson will report to Marvel Global Digital Media Group executive VP Ira Rubenstein, who said he "couldn't be more pleased" with the promotion. "In the three years since he joined our team, TQ has gone to great lengths to increase the value of both our self-titled and licensed products," says Rubenstein. "We look forward to seeing his continued success with the company over the next several years."
