This week's top rental charts from U.S. game rental company GameFly, actually representing the most requested games for the week ending August 18, highlights the popularity surrounding video game titles that have been already released, as well as those that are yet to debut.
The all-platform chart was again topped by Capcom's recent zombie-slaying adventure,
Dead Rising for the Xbox 360, followed by THQ's upcoming GTA-inspired
Saint's Row. Square Enix's recently released
Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus for the PlayStation 2 rounded out the top three most requested titles across all platforms for the week.
Looking at the Xbox 360 chart exclusively, both
Dead Rising and
Saint's Row also ranked as the top two requests for the platform respectively for the period. Microsoft Game Studios, Q Entertainment, and Phantagram's action RPG
N3: Ninety-Nine Nights was the third most requested Xbox 360 title for the week.
Once again, Electronic Arts'
Madden NFL 07 remained the most requested Xbox title for the week in anticipation of its release on August 22, while requests for the annual gridiron release were again followed by Vivendi's physics-powered racing game,
FlatOut 2. EA's over the top first-person shooter
Black ranked as the third most requested Xbox title for the week, knocking DreamCatcher Interactive's console port of
Painkiller, subtitled
Hell Wars, into the fourth position on the chart.
As expected,
Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus was the most requested PlayStation 2 title for the week, followed by
Madden NFL 07. As was the case the last two weeks, the third most requested PlayStation 2 title for the week proved to be Vivendi's
FlatOut 2.
Namco Bandai's
Pac-Man World Rally was the most requested GameCube title for the week, while
LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy remained in the second spot for the second week in a row. THQ's
Barnyard, still drawing interest based on its movie license, continued to hold onto the third position on the chart.
Nintendo's
Pokemon Emerald and
Pokemon Fire Red continued to dominate Game Boy Advance requests for the week, and held onto the top two positions respectively on the chart. Meanwhile, Atlus's offbeat
Summon Night: Swordcraft Story took hold of the third position, while last week's number three title,
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team fell dramatically to the eighth position on the chart. Concerning the the Nintendo DS,
Star Fox: Command remained on top of the chart, followed by
Mario Hoops 3 on 3 and the ever popular
New Super Mario Bros.
EA's
Madden NFL 07 finally overcame Namco Bandai's
Tekken: Dark Resurrection to take the top spot for PSP requests for the week, forcing the popular 3D fighter to settle for second place. Square Enix's role-playing epic,
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth again proved its popularity by remaining the third most requested PSP title for the period.
Looking towards the upcoming console launches of the Wii and PlayStation 3, Ubisoft's,
Assassin's Creed again ranked as the most requested PS3 title for the week, followed by Activision's
Call of Duty 3 and Sony and Insomniac's
Resistance: Fall of Man.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl toppled
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess as the most requested Wii title for the week, forcing the long anticipated
Zelda into the second position on the chart. As was the case in previous weeks, the much anticipated
Super Mario Galaxy rounded out the top three requests for the upcoming console platform.
