This week's GameFly video game rental charts for North America, specifically relating to games rented via the games-by-mail service for the week ending February 27th, show popularity over multiple game formats.
New games coming out for the Xbox 360 means that for the first time in a while, the system has completely taken over the all-format rental chart's top three. In some respects this is unusual given the system's much smaller userbase compared to any of the current-generation consoles, but since the 360's games carry a price point of $60 compared to the more and more common $40 of new releases elsewhere, 360 players may be more eager than others to try games out before buying. At any rate,
Fight Night Round 3 leads both the all-format and Xbox 360-specific charts this week, with
Full Auto in second and
Condemned: Criminal Origins in third on both charts.
Boxing mania continues onto the PS2 and Xbox as well, as
Fight Night Round 3 takes the championship belt on both platforms. On the PlayStation 2, EA's boxer dashes the hopes of
Shadow of the Colossus at #2, as
Grandia III slips from #1 last week to #3 this time around. On the Xbox,
Half-Life 2 takes second prize, with
Gun landing in third place again.
Over on the GameCube, kids are evidently bored of cleaning house and want something a little more
in-your-face, as last week's #1 game
Chibi-Robo disappears from the top three in order to make way for
Sonic Riders's debut at the top.
Super Mario Strikers remains in position at #2, and
Mario Party 7 is still in third. On Nintendo's Game Boy Advance,
Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Duel Academy is still ahead of
Final Fantasy IV, filling the first and second positions on the chart, with the third going to the long-lasting
Pokémon Emerald.
Resident Evil: Deadly Silence, the touch screen-enabled remake of the original
RE, continues its death grip on #1 on the Nintendo DS charts. #2 this week is the debut of
Age of Empires: Age of Kings, a real-time strategy chance of pace from the system's action games, with
Animal Crossing: Wild World back up at #3. On Sony's PSP,
Fight Night Round 3 rises up to take the title in its first week on the charts. Below it,
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories sneaks up behind
Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX with a lead pipe, taking #2 back and leaving Capcom's one-on-one fighter at #3.
