Gamecube Sales Double In February

Nintendo's new Gamecube promotion, which offers a free game (from a select list) to consumers with the purchase of the console, has paid off big: unit sales shot up 110% in February over the previous month.

Nintendo, struggling to make a comeback in the US market since it was overtaken by the Xbox, is also touting strong pre-orders for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker -- 600,000 units so far. That game also offers a bonus to consumers who purchase it: a free disc with two classic Zelda titles. Wind Waker will be released next week, on March 24.
