Gamasutra had the most comprehensive, in-depth coverage of last week's Game Developer Conference 2009 in San Francisco -- and here's your chance to check it out if you were busy at last week's event. We've archived the entire event coverage, which was sponsored by Shanghai-based company Virtuos, on a special Game Developers Conference 2009 event page. Some of the highlights from late on Friday include Peter Molyneux's talk about prototyping at Lionhead, as well as a piece on the art direction of Brutal Legend and learning from WoW's design mistakes. The week-long event featured a number of memorable keynote addresses from high-profile figures, such as ngmoco co-founder Neil Young on why the iPhone is overtaking the DS and PSP. Nintendo president and CEO Satoru Iwata revealed several cheered Wii and DS announcements in his keynote address, and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima talked about how he defied "the impossible" throughout the stealth series' history. 2D Boy's Carmel also delivered a standout keynote at GDC's Independent Games Summit on how to succeed as an independent developer. Other notable sessions from GDC 2009's nine sector-specific summits include Pandemic's talk on successful outsourcing as a developer; a Serious Games Summit discussion on lessons learned from Maxis' Spore; and a panel on creating casual games for "the blue ocean". Other notable sessions from the main conference include eccentric designer Keita Takahashi talking about how Noby Noby Boy came to be; industry legends Warren Spector, Will Wright, Rob Pardo, and more debating gaming trends; the Experimental Gameplay Sessions presenting a collection of fascinating, innovative titles; and Emil Pagliarulo (Fallout 3), Goichi Suda (No More Heroes), and Fumito Ueda (Shadow of the Colossus) on evolving game design.
