Full Sail Reveals Development Plans for New Facilities

Officials at Full Sail University last week unveiled the project plans for a new facility that will house a new game production studio as well as other high tech workspaces.
Full Sail University, a game development school in Florida, last week unveiled its plan to develop on 2.2 acres a set of facilities that will include a state-of-the-art game production studio. The site will also house a new recording studio and an expansion to the on-campus professional film studio. The two-story studio complex will provide students access to an acoustically engineered multi-purpose facility that features seating for 500 people; a movable, demountable stage; and new audio and video equipment. A green room for the comfort of VIP guests is also part of the plans. The building that houses the game production and recording studios has 10,600 square feet of space, with the ground floor holding the full-size, flagship recording studio that will incorporate recording technology and variable acoustic isolation areas that can be utilized by both students and professionals. The hallways feature oversized acoustic windows that will allow guests to easily view the recording process.

Details about the second floor game production studio space are vague, but are said to mimic “all the facilities common to a game studio,” according to campus literature, including team meeting rooms and offices. Pete Ikegami, president of MRI Architects, which is developing the buildings in conjunction with the university, said in a press release, “Thirteen years ago we established a design relationship to create dynamic spaces that stimulate the minds of creative individuals utilizing economical materials and construction. Over the years and with over 700,000 square feet of projects on campus, we have refined our designs with each project becoming more exciting, and further evolving the unique architectural style of Full Sail University. This new project is the latest generation based on the original design mission, using simple concrete tilt-wall construction and a green building design approach.”
