Independent developers Artificial Studios and Immersion Games have announced that their self-published Ageia’s PhysX FPS showcase title CellFactor: Revolution will be released as a free full downloadable on May 8th. The game, which was produced in conjunction with Egypt-based Timeline Interactive, is meant to showcase AGEIA’s hardware-based PhysX processor to produce true-to-life physics including "hyper-realistic cloth, fluid and debris gameplay effects." While the company notes that the game will be playable without a PhysX processor, players with the hardware installed will have a "complete experience with noticeable gameplay benefits," including three additional “extreme PhysX” levels. Those levels, designed to spotlight physics-based gameplay, will include particular elements in which, the company says, "oil leaking from a barrel may be an indicator of its volatile nature, a spider web twitch can indicate nearby movement, lava can be psionically harnessed to deflect or smother enemies, and particle beams can be used as weapons." PhysX-enabled players will also be able to take part in four LAN-based multiplayer modes against human and AI opponents, while gamers without the card will have access to processor will be limited to playing in multiplayer “skirmish” modes against AI controlled enemies. The LAN modes promise players can manipulate "an immense amount of objects simultaneously, control vehicles, masters Psi-powers and fight 7 friends and 16 AI-controlled enemies." Said Ageia CEO Manju Hegde, “The physics in CellFactor: Revolution are unlike anything gamers have seen before. The game delivers stunning physics-driven gameplay elements and dramatic effects. The Ageia PhysX processor dramatically accelerates dynamic motion and interaction in complex environments with real-world, real-time properties for a whole new dimension in gameplay.” The game will be available from the official Cellfactor website on May 8th for free download. More on Ageia's gaming initiatives can be heard in our recent GDC podcast with the company's vice president of marketing Michael Steele.
