Four Magical Weeks At Top Of UK Charts For Harry Potter

The magic of Harry Potter has kept EA’s movie tie-in at the top of the UK charts, beating off competition from Activision’s Transformers, as Nintendo also finds continued success with no less than three brain training style games in the top
With the release of the final book in the series, and the continued success of the movie, Electronic Art’s adaption of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix has remained at the number one spot in the UK sales charts for a fourth consecutive week. The game’s closest competition has come from fellow movie license Transformers: The Game, although the opening of the movie in the UK did not coincide with the period covered by this week’s chart. Despite this, the game topped both the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 only charts, making it likely it will reach the number one spot in the all formats chart next week. Elsewhere in the top ten, Nintendo continues to enjoy an extremely successful summer, with four first party titles and five overall exclusives. The second highest new entry of the week was Big Brain Academy for Wii (aka Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree) at number three, making a total of three brain training style games in the top ten. This is in addition to the re-entry of Big Brain Academy on the Nintendo DS at number forty. The release of its delayed PSP version has done nothing to halt the descent of Shrek the Third in the top ten, but the belated release of The Darkness on PlayStation 3 has seen the title rise up one place to number seven – with the game debuting at number one in the PlayStation 3 only chart. As predicted, Mario Party 8 has plummeted out of the top ten to number thirty, with the game having been recalled after less than one day on sale. Meanwhile, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 has benefited from current interest in the ongoing Open golf tournament, rising up three places to number ten. Elsewhere in the top forty, the newly announced value bundle for the PlayStation 3 and numerous other retailer specific promotions has had a clear effect on software sales, with Resistance: Fall of Man re-entering the charts at number twenty-four and MotorStorm appearing again at number thirty-five.
