Flipside Acquires Uproar, Creating Web Gaming Goliath

Flipside Inc., a unit of Vivendi, announced that it will acquire all outstanding common shares of its New York-based competitor, Uproar Inc..
The deal is valued at about $140 million. Flipside, a division of Vivendi Universal, is based in Berkeley, CA and is notable for hosting the online version of You Don't Know Jack. Uproar operates a family of advertising-supported interactive entertainment sites including uproar.com, iwin.com, and amused.com. Company officials expect the combined company to pull in about $70 million in revenue during 2001, and anticipate that the combined company will be profitable by the end of 2001. Uproar Chairman and CEO Ken Cron will become the CEO of Flipside, while Flipside President and COO Emmanuel Schalit will continue in his current role.
