Gamasutra is proud to present GDCTV, a new section showcasing streaming high-quality video content of some of the notable sessions of this year's Game Developers Conference. In this inaugural edition, in a format that includes streaming video with accompanying slides, we present Lionhead founder and Populous/Black and White creator Peter Molyneux's GDC 2005 lecture "Gameplay Moves Forward into the 21st Century", described as follows: "Gameplay is that magic ingredient by which a game ultimately succeeds or fails. Intangible and difficult to get right, it is still what this industry is founded on. But with the games industry starting to mature and audiences becoming more mainstream, it is perhaps time to look at new gameplay devices. Lionhead's ambition is to create a game which pushes the boundaries of what we consider to be possible and the Dimitri project, which has been in conception for two years now, certainly does that. Peter Molyneux discusses the steps that are being taken to create a title which attempts to advance the concept of gameplay. This talk encompasses the idea of new gameplay devices and styles as well as Lionhead's new approach to the development of ambitious titles. It focuses particularly on concept and design." You can now access the current GDCTV streaming lecture (a brief, free registration process is required.)
