Finland-based Fathammer has created the first cross-platform 3-D game engine for PDAs, Smartphones and handheld game-centric devices. Fathammer's X-Forge gaming technology and suite of supporting tools will allow game developers to both create original titles as well as bring existing properties to multiple mobile platforms. Content created with the X-Forge platform will be fully optimized for the latest processor and graphics technologies to allow for smooth real-time 3D graphics. X-Forge uses existing client-side technologies, but also allows integration of 3rd party networking, distribution, and billing solutions. The X-Forge game engine supports all major handheld systems, establishing a single development environment for delivering 3-D games, regardless of device. Fathammer says engine and tools will enable video game companies to reduce development cycles and trim costs by reusing assets, programming and game design from existing console and PC titles.
