Publisher Farlan Entertainment today admitted to a number of issues with its massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) for the PC, Dark and Light, and acknowledged that the game was released prematurely due to what it claims was "pressure from its investors and from the gaming community." PC MMO Dark and Light was released to retail in June 2006 after an extensive Beta period and significant development time, and was billed by its creators as having “the largest virtual game surface ever.” However, the company noted that it is working to fix the game, and is offering existing subscribers three months with no monthly subscription fee. Farlan anticipates that this three month window will provide enough time for the various technical corrections to the game to be made. In addition, the company is still accepting new Dark and Light subscribers via an access key that can be purchased for $39.99 (€39,99, taxes included). As part of its efforts to fix the game's shortcomings, Farlan has signed a new production agreement with developer SnailGame Entertainment, the company that currently handles distribution of Dark and Light in China. SnailGame will provide additional people to focus on graphic and scenic production. However, NP Cube will continue to oversee Dark and Light’s evolution and technical/creative control. Finally, Farlan noted that Dark and Light’s development team will focus on improving and correcting the game’s technical shortcomings, with special attention placed on the game's handling, user interface, processing speed, game immersion, and battle performance. The company commented that the process of upgrading and improving Dark and Light is already underway, and that a patch was recently applied that corrects a number of game balancing and graphical interface issues.
