FamilyFun.com, a website centering around family-oriented activities and recreation, is about to hold its 2nd annual Video Game of the Year awards, which are an offshoot of its T.O.Y. Awards. The website is currently accepting entries in the competition to create its list of nominees. Not just anyone can submit a game to the competition; FamilyFun is specifically seeking entries from the game publishers or creators themselves. The awards are limited to games rated E or E10+, which should make for some interesting winners: the top inaugural awards in 2004 went to Power Rangers: Dino Thunder and Shrek 2. The awards will be divided by hand-held and console categories, in addition to age sub-categories for games suitable for 6-9 years old and 10-12 years old. Games made for all major platforms will be accepted. New for 2005, the awards program features year-round game reviews from parents and kids that provide detailed information specific to each game, helping parents make informed purchase decisions. Games with the requisite ESRB ratings must also have been released for PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, or Game Boy Advance; PC games are not eligible at this time. Any game released after January 1, 2005 is eligible. Entries will be accepted until September 30th, and the final awards will be announced in November.
