Eugene P. Jarvis, a twenty-five-year veteran of the gaming industry, has been selected to receive the 2005 International Game Developers Association's Game Developers Choice Award for Lifetime Achievement. The award will be presented to Jarvis during the Choice Awards ceremony at the Game Developers Convention in San Francisco on Wednesday, March 9th. Jarvis' credits and contributions to gaming history begin with the creation of
Defender in the arcades, followed by
Robotron: 2084 and the anti-drug shooter
N.A.R.C., which is currently being updated for consoles by Midway. He followed his '80s successes up with the
Cruis'n series in the '90s, and recently released the full-motion video arcade light gun game
Target: Terror through his new company, Raw Thrills.
"It is a great honor to receive this award and to join the ranks of some of the industry's most revered game creators," said Jarvis, who will receive an award previously won by Will Wright, Yuji Naka, and Gunpei Yokoi. "We are clearly at the threshold of a new frontier and I can't wait to see how our community will forge ahead into the new era of game development."
