The Entertainment Software Association has hired longtime entertainment- and broadcasting-focused lawyer Erik Huey to serve as its senior vice president for government affairs. Huey was formerly a partner at Kilpatrick Stockton LLP, which itself lists e-commerce, entertainment, and technology and communications as being amongst its areas of focus. In particular, Huey has dealt with game industry-related topics such as artists' First Amendment rights and piracy, and successfully lobbied for federal tax incentives for domestic film production. In his role within the ESA, he will deal with government officials at the federal and state levels on behalf of the trade organization, which in recent years has stepped up its governmental lobbying efforts. Huey has also served in an organizational role for multiple presidential campaigns, including Clinton/Gore 1992 and Kerry/Edwards 2004.
